Joshua Tree National Monument is about 2 1/2 hours
outside of LA, beyond Palm Springs. The photo above shows Cholla Cacti, but
the park is best known for the Joshua Trees that give it it's name. They
were just starting to bloom as of the visit, and the wildflowers hadn't
started yet. Although you might think this year's rains would lead to a
blockbuster wildflower year, the Ranger said the rains came too late for
this to be more than an average year. Still, JT is a great park, and
I'd highly recommend it. The next day, we went to Indian Canyons just
outside (maybe inside?) Palm Springs. It's got groves of natural palm trees
in the streams and washes coming off the mountains. Have a look!
